Happy hump day, dear GrayViners! Did you sleep well last night?

I was already nodding off by 8:30 p.m., so I skipped my usual bedtime routine and went straight to dreamland. Normally, I like to unwind by jotting a few thoughts in my journal — little moments from the day, things I’m grateful for—and then I’ll read a few pages of whatever book’s on my nightstand. Sometimes I’ll just scroll through social media for a bit before I doze off.

How about you? Do you have a routine before you hit the hay—maybe a favorite show, a book, or a warm cup of tea? I’d love to hear what helps you wind down at night. Tell me all about it!

I read in bed every night. Depending on the subject matter, it lulls me to sleep in just a bit, but the good stuff might keep me awake until after midnight, when I force myself to stop and turn out the light.

I read my book until a quarter to 9 then I set my husband up for the night. He keeps a crockpot going 24/7 adding stuff everyday. I fix him a big bowl of that and a bowl of oatmeal. Then I fill his water cups for the night. He worked the night shift for years so he doesn't go to bed when I do and he sleeps in his recliner. He broke his ankle a year and a half ago and once he's in the recliner, there he'll stay until early morning when he transfers to his office chair. After all of that is done, I brush my teeth, say my prayers and I'm asleep before my head hits the pillow.
