George Clooney claps back, “My job isn’t to please the president.”

In the grand theater of American politics and celebrity, few performances are as captivating as when Hollywood royalty and political powerhouses collide.

Enter stage left: George Clooney, the silver-haired Oscar laureate whose roles on and off the screen have long captured many Americans’ imaginations.

Clooney, a man who has navigated the spotlight with the ease of a seasoned diplomat, recently found himself in the crosshairs of none other than President Donald Trump.

The drama unfolded on CBS Mornings, where Clooney, promoting his Broadway debut in Good Night and Good Luck, was prodded by host Gayle King about Trump's scathing remarks on Truth Social, where he labeled Clooney a “fake movie actor.”

With the poise of a man who has weathered many a storm, Clooney's retort was as cool as one of his on-screen heists, saying, “I don’t care.”

Clooney's indifference to Trump's barbs is a masterclass in the art of nonchalance. “I’ve known Donald Trump for a long time,” he said. “My job is not to please the President of the United States. My job is to try and tell the truth when I can and when I have the opportunity.”

The backstory to this latest spat is as intriguing as any Hollywood plotline. Trump's ire was sparked last summer when Clooney penned an op-ed for The New York Times, suggesting that Joe Biden step down, citing Biden's age as a concern.

He also said that Biden had saved democracy before, but could do this again by stepping aside as the Democratic nominee for president to give the party a better chance of victory.

“So now fake movie actor George Clooney, who never came close to making a great movie, is getting into the act,” Trump posted in reaction. “He’s turned on Crooked Joe like the rats they both are.”

Yet, Clooney's resolve remains unshaken. On Jimmy Kimmel Live! he quipped, “I will [get out of politics] if he does. That’s a trade-off I’d do,” in response to a Trump quote asking Clooney to get out of politics.

In a candid conversation with CNN's Jake Tapper, Clooney described his public opposition to Biden's 2024 candidacy as a “civic duty.” He explained, “When I saw people on my side of the street not telling the truth, I thought that was time to... some people [are mad], sure. That’s OK.”

“That’s the deal, you have to take your stand if you believe in it,” he continued. “Take a stand, stand for it and then deal with the consequences. That’s the rules, so when people criticize me…I’m OK with criticism for where I stand. I defend their right to criticize me as much as I defend my right to criticize them.” he continued.

From his stance against the war two decades ago to his current political commentary, he has consistently shown that he is not afraid to take a stand. “Take a stand, stand for it, and then deal with the consequences. That's the rules,” he stated firmly.

There isn’t a single actor in Hollywood whose opinion I take seriously. At the end of the day, their job is to convincingly portray fiction—they’re literally paid to pretend for a living. Funny how that starts to sound a lot like politicians. As for George, he's just another fading face clinging to relevance. Fortunately, more and more people are seeing through the performance and realizing these entertainers aren’t spokespeople for the average American—they're just playing another role.

I believe it was totally unnecessary for Gayle King (who has only become where she is due to her closeness to Mme Oprah Winfrey) to have even brought up that question,? unless she just wanted to titillate her audiences. I do agree with one your responders that these celebrities should not voice their opinions just because they have a following or rather want not to be pushed in the background. Personally I could not care a fig which celebrity (even one I might admire) blows off on there opinions of politics. They are no more wiser or smarter , even if they believe they are, than the general public who has a mind of their own ........ hopefully.
Just do your acting which no doubt you are good at and top influencing your fans
