Just Following The Sign
A state trooper spots a car puttering down the highway at just 20 miles an hour and thinks, “Now that’s just as dangerous as someone speeding!” So he flips on his lights and pulls the car over.
As he walks up, he notices five elderly ladies inside—two up front, three in the back—all looking like they’d just seen a ghost. Not a word between them, and their eyes are wide as saucers.
The driver, a sweet little woman with both hands tightly on the wheel, says, “Officer, I don’t understand. I was doing the exact speed limit!”
The trooper gently replies, “Ma’am, you weren’t speeding—but going too slow can also be unsafe. You were driving 20 miles an hour.”
She nods proudly and says, “Exactly! That’s what the sign said!”
The officer pauses, then says, “Ma’am… that was the route number. Not the speed limit.”
She blushes and chuckles, “Oh my, thank you, officer! I’ll pay better attention.”
Just as he’s about to send her on her way, he leans in and asks, “Before you go—are the ladies in the back alright? They look pretty shaken.”
“Oh, they’ll be fine,” she says with a smile. “We just got off Route 119.”
