Mark Twain and His Love of Cats
Mark Twain, the legendary American author, was a devoted cat lover who famously preferred feline companionship over people. He once said, "If man could be crossed with the cat, it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat." Since he couldn’t take his cats on his travels, he even rented kittens to keep him company!
Twain gave his beloved cats delightfully quirky names, including Apollinaris, Beelzebub, Blatherskite, Buffalo Bill, Satan, Sin, Sour Mash, Tammany, Zoroaster, Soapy Sal and Pestilence—and at one point, he had 19 of them!
