1789: First US Supreme Court Established

1869: Black Friday Gold Panic
Gold prices crashed after President Ulysses S. Grant ordered $4 million in government reserves to be sold, quashing Jay Gould and James Fisk’s attempt to corner the market and triggering financial chaos.

1896: Birth of F. Scott Fitzgerald
American novelist and short story writer F. Scott Fitzgerald was born, later capturing the spirit of the Jazz Age in works like The Great Gatsby, considered his masterpiece.

1906: Devils Tower Named First National Monument
President Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed Devils Tower in Wyoming as the country’s first national monument, praising the towering rock formation as a “natural wonder”.
