Quote Of The Day 08.15.25

"Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans." – John Lennon

This quote reminds us that while we’re planning for the future, life is quietly unfolding in the present. Some of the best moments—the ones that make us laugh, cry, or feel deeply connected—often happen when we least expect them. It could be a surprise visit from an old friend, a song on the radio that transports you back decades, or even an unexpected turn that ends up changing your life for the better.

What’s one unexpected moment that became a memory you cherish? Share it with us in the comments!

I went to Hawaii in 2008 to see my nephew graduate with his bachelor's degree. We did many fun things while I was there. We road all over the island of Oahu while him and I had long conversations. He took me to a tatoo parlor to get my old tatoo freshened up. His wife and mom wanted to go shopping. So it was just he and I. He was in the Air Force so we didn't get to see him very often. He continued his education and was stationed in South Korea a couple of years later. He developed colon cancer while there and they brought him back to Wright Pat to get him medical attention. He died several days later.
I absolutely treasure the time spent with him in Hawaii. He was only 35 and he has been gone since 2012. That was a horrible time for him and the family. I hope he knew what wonderful memories that he gave me

I went out to Las Vegas in November of 2004 to visit my best friend. When I say best friend, I mean the ultimate best friend. No judgement, always there when you need them, total honesty and deep and abiding love. I had known her since I started going to college at Indiana State University back in 1979 so we had a long history.. She was my first roommate. We couldn't have been more different. I'd been with more guys than I could count and she was saving her virginity for marraige or at least who she thought was the right one.

She was from Las Vegas and was married to a Brit that she had originally married to keep him in the country. It turned into a love affair. I decided that this visit I would get a hotel room on the strip. She came and we pretty much stayed at the small bar tucked into a corner of my hotel. Boy did we laugh! You can tell by the picture how much fun we were having. It was the last time I saw her alive. Her husband got concerned one morning (May 5, 2005) because she hadn't woken up yet to find her dead in their bed. She had had a massive stroke in her sleep. She had never smoked, hardly drank and was 56 years old. I think of her every day and sometimes make up conversations in my head knowing her take was on what I was talking about. She is the lady on the left.
