Shag Carpet

Do you remember when shag carpet was the height of home fashion? Back in the ‘70s, those thick, fluffy rugs in all sorts of bold colors—like burnt orange, avocado green, and mustard yellow—covered living rooms across the country. Choosing from swatches like this was a whole experience. Did your house rock a shag carpet? Share your memories with us in the comments!

My in-laws had a red-orange-yellow shag carpet in the living room. I thought it was awful, but my kids loved it. One of the things I didn't like was how it hid Legos like crazy. They hurt when you stepped on them and they would punch holes in the vacuum cleaner bags.

We moved into our first home as a newly married couple and had to live with ugly shag. It was a mix of yellows with several different lengths. Vacuuming was a joke! We had a silly plastic rake to make it look nice. We couldn’t afford new carpet so we lived with it for 5 years. Yucky
