Small But Certain Happiness

When I was a kid, we didn't live in a very good neighborhood and sudden blackouts were very common no matter the season. There was a blackout during one hot summer night, and my mom decided to bring me outside to cool off. Not long after, our neighbors started going outside too, and some brought tables and chairs. Others brought food and drinks, and before anyone else knew it, we were all dining together underneath a starry sky. Yes, we were all dining in the dark, but the stories and laughter shared within our little community made it seem like it was the brightest place on Earth. It's a small part of my life, just a sliver of a night, but it certainly brings me happiness whenever I remember it!

Is there a certain item that brings you happiness, or perhaps there's a memory from the past that always brings a smile to your face whenever you remember it? I'd love to read your feel-good stories, so please feel free to share them with me below!

Short answer made long…over 4 years ago me and my husband were found barely alive after finding out we were exposed to carbon monoxide poisoning for the previous 7 months. Af spending 1 and 1/2 months in the hospital, we then went to rehab for another 2 months. We had to learn to walk again. My husband had to learn how to hold utensils to feed himself. We cannot drive anymore. Mobility remains an issue for both of us.
Now I can answer your question…What makes me smile is being able to go to bed and wake up together! Last thing we do before going to bed and waking up is to kiss each other and then know we are blessed to be together and grateful to have us both be alive in the first place! Big big hugs and smiles!
We are so happy to be seen vert rather than horizontal in our coffins! 🥹 to ♥️ add ☮️

Seeing my 2 kids and 5 grandkids continue to excel in this game of life.
That’s truly wonderful! Watching your kids and grandkids thrive must bring so much pride and joy. I also love seeing my nephew do so well. 😊

Is the Dalai Lama an Epicurean? "The purpose of our lives is to be happy."
I think I might need a philosophy class for that one! But I do love the Dalai Lama’s idea about happiness being the purpose of life. It reminds me how little joys—like shared moments with family and friends—can be some of the brightest parts of our lives. What's your small but certain happiness?
