Social Security speeds up certain disability claims with new update

A recent change from the Social Security Administration will help some Americans receive decisions on their disability claims more quickly.

The update expands a program that targets serious medical conditions for accelerated review.

Officials say the change is aimed at reducing long waits for people with diagnoses that clearly meet disability requirements.

The adjustment will impact thousands of applicants nationwide in the coming months.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced it has added 13 new conditions to its Compassionate Allowances (CAL) list.

The CAL program is designed to fast-track applications for people whose medical records clearly meet the agency’s disability standards.

Since its launch, more than 1.1 million people have been approved through this expedited process.

With the new additions, there are now 300 conditions, enabling the SSA to make faster decisions for applicants with certain severe illnesses.

The 13 conditions added include:
  • Au-Kline Syndrome
  • Bilateral Anophthalmia
  • Carey-Fineman-Ziter Syndrome
  • Harlequin Ichthyosis (Child)
  • Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation
  • LMNA-related Congenital Muscular Dystrophy
  • Progressive Muscular Atrophy
  • Pulmonary Amyloidosis (AL Type)
  • Rasmussen Encephalitis
  • Thymic Carcinoma
  • Turnpenny-Fry Syndrome
  • WHO Grade III Meningiomas
  • Zhu-Tokita-Takenouchi-Kim Syndrome

When applicants submit medical evidence showing they have a CAL condition, the SSA can quickly flag and prioritize their claims using advanced technology.

The program was first created to reduce waiting times for applicants with clearly disabling diagnoses, while remaining compliant with federal policy.

SSA Commissioner Frank Bisignano said, “By adding these 13 conditions to the Compassionate Allowances list, we are helping more people with devastating diagnoses to quickly receive the support they need.”

Alex Beene, a financial literacy instructor at the University of Tennessee at Martin, called it “welcome news” for people who qualify.

Kevin Thompson, CEO of 9i Capital Group, noted that while claims still follow the standard process, “If you're diagnosed with something on the Compassionate Allowances list, your claim could be processed much faster.”

The SSA is encouraging those who think they qualify to apply online at SSA.gov.

Long term, experts say this change could mean fewer delays and less financial stress for people facing severe medical conditions.

I noticed you once again failed to mention that the Trump administration is responsible for this!

If it was anything that you thought was bad, you would be sure to point your biased finger of blame at Trump!

Stop the hate filled bias and try giving credit where credit is due!
