Sunday Classics 08.17.2025
What a week it’s been in Sunday Classics! We had some truly wonderful throwbacks in the running, and as always, you all brought the nostalgia in full force. From toe-tappers to tearjerkers, it was a joy to see your favorites lighting up the comment section. But every week needs its winner—and this time, the crown goes to… "Brand New Key" by Melanie, as suggested by GrayViner @NIBOR0 !

If you were around in 1971, you probably remember this one lighting up the airwaves—and maybe even sparking a singalong or two. "Brand New Key" was a quirky, upbeat tune that topped the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks.
Melanie Safka wrote it in just 15 minutes after roller-skating to the grocery store (yes, really!). The song’s playful, almost childlike melody was inspired by her love of roller skates, but it also had a hint of cheeky humor that made people grin.
It sold over 3 million copies worldwide and remains one of those songs that’s instantly recognizable from the very first strum.
So now it’s your turn—what should take the spotlight next week? Drop your Sunday Classics suggestion in the comments below. The song that gets the most reactions will be our next featured pick in the newsletter.
Let’s see what timeless tunes you’ve got for us this time!
Cheers!
