The Importance of Following Instructions
A man is driving through the countryside when he spots a sign: “Horseback Riding - $20 an Hour!”
Feeling a bit nostalgic, he pulls into the farm and asks the farmer, “Mind if I take a horse for a ride?”
“Sure thing,” says the farmer. “But just so you know, this horse is an ex-racehorse. He can jump anything—just make sure you shout ‘One, two, three, jump!’ right before an obstacle.”
The man rolls his eyes. “Yeah, right,” he thinks. “Talking to a horse? Come on.”
He climbs onto the massive horse, gives it a little kick, and they take off.
Soon, they approach a fence. The man leans forward, ready for the jump, but the horse charges straight through the fence, splintering it into pieces.
Shaken but determined, he heads for the next fence, thinking maybe it was a fluke. Again, the horse barrels right through it, leaving another trail of destruction.
Panicking, the man remembers the farmer’s words. At the next fence, he shouts, “One, two, three, jump!”
Like a miracle, the horse soars over the fence with the grace of a ballerina.
He returns to the farm, where the furious farmer is waiting, hands on hips.
“What have you done to my fences?” the farmer shouts. “Didn’t I tell you to say ‘One, two, three, jump’?”
“I did! I swear!” the man lies, trying to cover his tracks. “But you should know, your horse is deaf!”
“Deaf?” the farmer snaps. “My horse isn’t deaf—he’s blind!”
