The Plant That Can Catch Fire (But Doesn’t Burn)
There’s a plant that smells like lemons, blooms in summer... and can catch fire without ever being burned. Do you know what it is?
Say hello to Dictamnus albus, also called the gas plant. On hot days, it releases a flammable oil into the air. If you hold a match or lighter near the plant, the vapor can ignite with a quick, flash-like flame, creating a magical burning effect that leaves the plant completely unscathed. It doesn’t spontaneously combust, but it’s certainly one of the few living plants that can produce a quiet botanical party trick!
