What Was Your Go-To Design?
Remember when you could stroll past a booth at the fair and pick out the perfect design to iron onto your favorite T-shirt? The air smelled like funnel cakes, the booth walls were plastered with colorful images—from muscle cars to cartoon characters—and you could almost feel the heat of the iron as your shirt transformed before your eyes. What was your go-to design to put on a shirt?
These are iron-on T-shirt decals, a huge hit in the 1970s and ’80s. You could buy them at fairs, flea markets, or mall kiosks, choose your favorite image, and watch as a hot press transferred it right onto your shirt. For many, it was the easiest way to wear your favorite band, brand, or bold design without buying a whole new tee. Did you have a favorite decal—or maybe still have a shirt hiding in the back of your closet? Tell us about it in the comments!
