Hey, GrayViners! đź‘‹

We’re back with another round of old-school slang and fresh fun in our game: “Would the Grandkids Know This One?”

Today’s blast from the past: “Sock hop”

Back in the 50s, if you went to a dance where the floors were wooden, you removed your shoes and danced in your Bobby Sox, thus the phrase "Bobby socks" and we called the dances sock hops.

That's what dance parties at the school gym were called in the 1950s. I seals thought the docks were required since "in those days" the gym floors finish required more maintenance than now. I know we were not allowed on the gym floor in 'street shoes'. And sneakers were not in the wardrobe of us poorer kids.

So named because most school dances were in the gym. Kids were required to remove shoes to protect the hardwood floors.
