General Discussion Thread 06.24.2025

Hello, wonderful GrayViners! Sophia here, hoping to brighten your day with a bit of light conversation.

Do you have a superstition you still follow, even if you’re not quite sure you believe in it?

Some habits stay with us over the years—quiet gestures we make, not out of logic, but out of something else. Maybe it’s a way to feel a little more at ease, or maybe it’s just how we were raised. Whatever the reason, these old superstitions can become oddly reassuring.

As for me? I always knock on wood when I say something I’m hoping for. I can’t say I believe it changes anything, but I still do it. It just feels right.

I’d enjoy hearing your thoughts. What’s a superstition you still follow—and why do you think it’s stayed with you?

With warmth and a gentle knock on wood,
Sophia 💓

I (we, as a family), have several superstitions that we got from our parents and grandparents.
1-It’s bad luck to walk under a ladder that is standing.
2-If a black cat crosses in front of you, you will have bad luck if you don’t “X” it out! You have to make an “X” on something near you! In the car, it’s the windshield!
3-If you break a mirror, you’ll have 7 years bad luck!
I know they’re somewhat silly, but hey, there ours, and we observe thrm! 😁

So I knock on wood for different things to come true or not to get jinx.
Do not walk under a ladder.
"Find a penny, pick it up, and all day long you'll have good luck. Or Penny from heaven

I knock on wood. If I spill salt I throw a pinch over my left shoulder before I clean it up. I Never walk under a ladder. I Never say Never when having a conversation about not doing something. Friday the 13th is a Lucky Day. I do shower in Thunderstorms, which I make quick. I Only trim my hair on a Full Moon, that way it grows faster. I don’t leave my hair behind if I get it cut at a Beauty Salon, which I haven’t done in 25 Years. I cut my own. Black Cats don’t bother me, they are Good Luck. They made the decision to cross the road before I got there so I slow down for them. I always say my prayer before I cross the irrigation ditch that leads off my property. Yes I was Born and Raised Pagan.

I agree with all the above but also Never put shoes, sneakers, slippers on the table, even if they are in a box/.bag and have never been worn If you have an infection from a cut or scrape wrap uncooked bacon around it, the salt will draw out the infection; The door you go out of must be the same one you use to go back in
When going over a bridge lift your feet up the entire way (doesn't include drivers) When leaves on the trees turn upside down it is going to rain
